The idea and reality of this tournament was the brain child of Alan and Josie Kline and Gene and Jane Saks. Both couples had visited Couples Tower Isle (Ocho Rios) many times over the years. They were impressed with the hospitality and how welcome the staff had always made them feel.
Because of their experiences with the Resort’s staff and an awareness of the parish’s needs, they started work on creating a charity golf tournament whose proceeds would be used to benefit the resort’s staff in particular and the Parish in general.
With the germ of an idea, and a close working relationship with Couples Resorts, Gene recruited the assistance of Kenny Clower (a Florida golf pro) to run the event, and in January of 2002, the first tournament was held.
Since its inception the charity tournament has gained notoriety, not only for the work it does but also for the quality of the tournament, and the array of the tournaments participants. The tournament now draws participants from Europe, the Caribbean, and the US and is sanctioned by the Jamaican PGA.
The tournament is held annually in January and is timed to coincide with the Tower Isle Anniversary.
